As in Sligo Creek. Is it Slee-go or Sly-go?
Thanks for helping settle a debate! |
Sly go |
+1 |
Yep |
"Sly go," and there really shouldn't be a debate. I can be kind of prescriptivist about words, but a place is pronounced pretty much however the vast majority of people from that area pronounce it, regardless of what its origins are (don't know that applies to Sligo, but say, Des Plaines, IL or Lima, OH, for example). |
Yep yep. |
Slee-go |
In Ireland, it is Sly-go |
I don’t see how this is a debate. It’s Sly-go. When in doubt just listen to any traffic report or news broadcast. |
Sligo Baptist Church is all that comes to mind for me |
Sli-jo |
Sly-go.
No one from around her days Slee-go. They are trying to be fancy. |
Sly-go. Same as the county in Ireland. |
No one from anywhere says Slee-go. |
The Germans would beg to differ. |
