Can someone walk me through ED and FAFSA?

We can pay full pay. Is filling out and submitting a FAFSA going to hurt or help ED admission? What about the CSS? Think Miami/Tulane type school.

Did you check Miami and Tulane's Net Price Calculators to confirm that you are full pay? Aren't both need-aware? Not seeing how filing FAFSA would help in this situation unless your purpose is for your student to take out federal student loans. These schools probably also require the CSS Profile to apply for financial aid.

If we applied for the CSS is that going to hurt his chances?

Does the Net Price Calculator tell you that you'd be eligible for aid?

Look at their common data set admissions and see if they are need blind or need aware.

NP here - we will be full pay in the future for sure - but does FAFSA need to be turned in to be considered for Merit awards?

At a glance, I don't see FAFSA listed on this page of Tulane scholarships under "how to apply," so I think it's safe to say the answer is no, FAFSA does not need to be filed. (Of course, look through carefully yourself.) https://admission.tulane.edu/tuition-aid/merit-scholarships

Here is the page for UMiami - look through carefully https://admissions.miami.edu/undergraduate/financial-aid/scholarships/freshman/index.html

I’ve never found a reliable straight answer to this.
