Maintenance on a leased vehicle?

Anonymous
Please forgive my ignorance - I have never leased a car before.

I don’t need to use the dealer for oil changes, right? If I do them somewhere else, is it okay as long as I have a record? If I am late with an oil change, or lose the receipt, will they ding me when I turn the car in? It’s a three year lease, so I guess when I’ll just have to do oil changes and maybe one big service thing?

You can go to anyone for oil changes, tire rotations, etc. I'm a frequent leaser and nobody has ever asked for records - I think they only would if it appears the car is in mechanically bad shape.

With a lease, the manufacturer's warranty will probably cover you the entire time - so the only big service thing you may need would be consumables like brakes, tires, belts, etc.

Save the receipts / take photos of the receipts just in case.
