Yu Ying Lottery on Apr 7, anyone attend?

Anonymous
Anyone attend the Yu Ying lottery last night?

Any insights, when/ how will the winners be notified?

if you want to know the results - call the school. Don't worry about them being overwhelmed with calls - they expect it today and tomorrow.

My understanding is that they will be sending out information to everyone in the lottery with the results.

If you call, let us know -- how many were waitlisted and accepted for PreK. We are interested for 2 years from now.

The numbers of applicants and openings can be very different each year, so while it's fine to get this years I heard it was 25 spots. 157 applicants for Prek4. That might be very different next year. Some schools move and that changes the number of applicants and returning students. Some schools add more classes. I know Yu Ying will move soon, since their lease is up in 2010 and that might change the slots available prfoundly.

Yes, I heard half PreK slots were taken by siblings.

Anyone know how many applicants there were for 2nd grade?

We were waitlisted for pre-k last year. # 11? I can't remember exactly. In late May, they offered us a spot, but we had already committed to another charter where we were accepted.

We got a spot in PK this year! Just found out this afternoon via email. It looks like there are just over 132 kids on the waitlist for PK.

Totally confused by the Yu Ying lottery, I'm afraid. Any idea why there are only 25 accepted students for Pre-K? I thought there were 2 classes (i.e., 50 spots). Am I reading this all incorrectly? Thanks everyone.

25 of them were reserved for siblings.

To person who asked about 2nd grade, there were 5 accepted kids, and 13 on the wait list for 2nd grade.

Does anyone know when they'll be able to start accepting students who already speak Chinese?

If you can't join after 2nd grade because it's too late to catch up, then shouldn't you be able to join in 3rd if you already speak a lot of Chinese?

I don't think there are any slots for 3 rd grade. The 2nd graders that were accepted this year will most likely be in he 2/3 class.

PP here. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was thinking of a child who speaks Chinese at home but didn't get into the Pre-K class. Wondering if the rules or odds will be different in a few years.

Does anyone know if they update the list often, or is it better to call?
Anonymous
Last year the list was updated whenever there was movement. Those accepted initially have 2 weeks to return intent and residency verificiation forms, so it will be at least 2 weeks til the first update.

My understanding of the acceptance policy is that no new students will be accepted into the 3rd grade or above. I disagree with the PP who said the 2nd grade acceptances will go into the grade 3/2 class. I believe they will go into the Grace 2/1 class, and no new to Yu Ying students will go into 3/2.
