How often do you have the first ranked team in the national in your backyard?
https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/united-soccer-coaches They got a game Saturday at 1 pm. |
Pretty often as MD has been #1 a few times in the last 20 years. |
Actually, the DC area has had the #1 team in soccer for years now. Georgetown, UMD, and UVA have all either won the national championship or been #1 multiple times in the last decade. |
Why is this such a surprise? Georgetown lost in the championship finals last year against Marshall so they should be pretty good this year. |
Often, we live in Charlottesville |
Watched them beat Seton Hall the other night 4-2. The style is ... different, I tried to get my DS to watch unsuccessfully. The stands were not full at all. |
We commute for travel soccer. It’s only 4 days a week…big name college here we come! |
Wednesday night at seton hall maybe? |
Am PP - hey yes sorry, didn't realize that was Seton Hall's field and not Georgetown. For some reason I had it in my head it was at Georgetown. |
It's u23 soccer. Enjoy. |
We are indeed lucky. People on this forum always seem to be focused on girls’ college soccer, but I think Brian Wiese is the best D1 men’s soccer coach and agree that Sasho Cirovski and George Gelnovatch are also outstanding. This is a fantastic area for boys’ youth soccer, but so few parents seem to know how well we compare on the national scene. |
Agreed. They have close ties to WW at US soccer and are well respected |
Yes, three strong coaches, but I do think most parents with boys that play soccer know this. |
And their women’s program is great, too. Similarly well-respected coaches. |
How many are local players, that is awesome |
