APS Immersion Boundaries

We're zoned for Carlin Springs and our daughter goes to Claremont. Really worried the re-zoning process will wind up switching us to Key. Nothing against the school, I just don't want another disruption for her after the last year and a half. Anyone more plugged into the process have insights to share? How worried should I be? Seems like we're in a zone that could go either way but I"m not aware of all the factors at play.

We are moving to Carlin Springs in about a month and also have a kid at Claremont. Following along.

In a similar boat - current students + siblings should be grandfathered in. This seems like the fairest way to deal with a long-term adjustment and recognize the impact of the last year and a half on the youngest students and their families. (This exception could be made with the requirement parents provide transport).

K Spanish lottery enrollment was pretty even for the two schools last year (there was actually 8 more applicants for Key). Keeping Spanish speakers balanced is the supposed to be the goal here so not sure if they will do anything.

The current zones don’t make sense from a transportation standpoint, so they are going to try to move boundaries in a way that improves transportation efficiency while also maintaining application/enrollment balance.

So does that mostly mean dealing with the few zones in the north that go to Claremont currently? Looks like enrollment is pretty low there right now anyway.

Seems like have two immersion schools creates the issue. Do away with one school and there is no issue. Lots of folks on waitlist would like your problems.

Yes, this constant changing is unnecessary. County doesn't need two Spanish immersion schools.

Would one be turned into an option school or reverted to neighborhood?

A neighborhood school is really necessary in that area. Doesn't mean that will happen though.

A lot of people on the waitlist would like these problems, so the solution is to put a lot of people on the waitlist of one school? Okay well that stellar logic aside, anyone have any actual information?

Probably a neighborhood school.

hoffman Boston, Barcroft, Cardinal, Nottingham, Tuckahoe, and Carlin Springs are under consideration for moving to Key

Isnt Key crazy over capacity though? What would adding zones do? I see the case for adding the few on the north that have low immersion enrollment anyway- to help with transportation. But doesn’t make sense to add a bigger zone like barcroft or Carlin springs - esp when Spanish speaking applicants were close to even last year.

It's not just about adding to Key. It's about re-doing the zones for both immersion schools.
