| I have a DD who has no idea what she wants to major in, but is interested in JMU. I'm just curious, which degrees JMU is known for. |
|
I think of them for business and health fields. Every kid I know who goes there is in one of those majors.
The chart of this page shows the breakdown by majors and the health and business clusters are the largest groups. https://datausa.io/profile/university/james-madison-university (scroll down to degrees) |
| It seems like a lot of teachers' at my kids' schools wen to JMU so I think of them for teaching. |
| Business, Education, Health Sciences |
these, + integrated science & technology |
| Business, Health, Teaching, IT, Poly-Sci/Pre-Law |
Same. We are in FCPS. Lots of JMU (undergrad) teachers at the ES. A few at the MS and HS. |
It was originally an all-women's teachers college. Went coed in the 70s, I think. |
| Business; in particular the accounting program is top notch. Same for health professions/nursing. And of course teaching. And music. |
|
Business - Best placement for a job post-graduation
Nursing - extremely competitive program The rest of the health sciences fall right in line there, too. |
|
The majors already mentioned, as well as International Affairs, PoliSci, Econ, Intelligence Analysis, Geography, Computer Science... We know graduates with those degrees and more. A simple Google search will tell you all the majors available.

| Following. What does it take to be accepted? |
| Also, Health Sciences, Biololgy, or Chemistry as undergraduate degrees to go into medical professional fields (separate from nursing). The is a whole separate advising program for that (very high acceptance rates to schools). |
| Are students directly admitted into the majors they choose or do they have to compete for limited spots after freshman or sophomore year? |
| At least in nursing, the student declares upon entry but applies to the program Sophomore year and is notified of acceptance the next semester. It is very competitive. For the current Freshman class, there are 400 declared majors in the program for 113 spots. |
