What does emergency legislation mean for charters?

“Charter networks have more leeway, with the council saying each can decide how many eligible virtual learners to accommodate, though each network must cap it at no less than 3 percent of its student body.”

How can each charter be forced to accommodate at least 3 percent of its student body in a whole new virtual environment?

Frankly I hate the Council and think they have no ability to manage schools.

What jerks. Once again, grandstanding at the expense of children.

THIS is what they waste the taxpayers’ time and money on — a pointless wishlist pushed by a handful of hysterical parents.

Meanwhile the things the Council did NOTHING to help with:

- Vaccine mandates to cut out 50%+ cases
- Getting kids back to school last year
- Test-to-stay to reduce quarantine

What freakin’ jokes. If anything serves to deter the notion of ending mayoral control for an elected board, this absurd record should be it.

Wait, the cap for DCPS is less than 1.5% based on these numbers. Where on earth did the charter 3% come from?

You know the mayor could do all those things without councils help. It doesn’t work the same the other way

What? What if there aren’t even 3% who want this? Are they giving schools money for this??

Yeah. I have no faith in this body to do anything but further disrupt any progress in DC. They did NOTHING to help last year when things were dire and many/most kids were learning nothing.

Now, in OCTOBER, they want to start implementing new rules and regulations for schools to start managing.

WTF. Is learning at all a focus for this group?! (No.)

Council is a bunch of unprofessional wackos in my opinion who shouldn’t be given any actual power. You know why? Because you know that saying with great power comes great responsibility? Well guess who has ZERO responsibility for absolutely anything in this city? The mayor suddenly looks like the only adult in the room.

and they aren’t even pushing for the one thing that reduces quarantine - test to stay. inexplicable.

So Stokes has 350 kids, about. Now they have to have a virtual school for at least 10 kids?
Anonymous
Perhaps write your council member. I know I have. I realize it did nothing, per usual.

If it was up to the council, schools would still be closed. does anyone doubt this?

There are 10 kids, so then two extra staff are required. There is no extra money.

You’re an a$$.
