Metro Fustal?

Anonymous
My son wants to do this league instead of Alexandria's, because he had soe weird objection to playing on tennis courts (which I think is quite unlikely now he is vaccinated, but he is being a pill about it. It was fine when he did it last year.). Is the Metro Futsal league good? Where are the games? I don't want to drive a far way.

Gus Donolo would be happy to train your kid for $200 per half hour

Alexandria played futsal on tennis courts last year to satisfy the COVID issue and concern about indoor play. Every year prior all games were played on indoor hard surface courts. Before you jump to the conclusion you might consider a call to Alexandria and ask where they intend to hold their league games. I would be very surprised if they hold the league in the same way they did last season. That was out of necessity not because that is what they wanted.

Metro league is pretty good. More of the higher level teams go to Alexandria. Games are usually GMU & NOVA Annandale campus if I remember correctly.

Or $175 per half hour if you’re willing to turn your vehicle into a “Soccer the Brazilian Way” advertisement…

He's a good trainer and he provides a service. What's with the exaggerated and snarky comments? Just go fishing or something to chill-out.

He is a hired gun with no loyalty or time spent at any club or program. He is in and out of clubs every 1-3 years. When my kid entered into youth soccer at U9 Gus was part of the coaching group. I've watched as he has bounced around from club to club to futsal to club to ...
I have nothing against the guy at all. If you want a coach with a lot of experience hes your guy. Just dont expect him to be around for your kid as your kid matures and grows. Unless of course you plan to follow Gus around as he chases the program that pays him the most $$$

We've got a group of 2005/2006 boys who want to play futsal this winter. They are all either SFL rec or low-level travel team players in the Fairfax area. Would the Metro Futsal league be a good one for them? Or should they go down to Alexandria?

I cant speak for Metro and its unlikely many if any have experience with both leagues. What I can tell you from experience is the Alexandria is well established and the biggest in the area. Multiple divisions so SFL players will be able to find appropriate competition. You have several options including bringing your own coach which will keep your costs down. My kid plays Alexandria and has done so for several years. I would know nothing about Metro or for that matter any club that plays Metro but I'm sure someone on this site has some insight

Thanks, my son is actually a travel player with another club. He didn't want to try out for Alexandria futsal ID, because he plays another winter sport, and who knows if he would have gotten a spot anyway. But, he will either play in Alexandria's less competitive non-futsal ID group, or we may be able to get a few friends interested in metro, if people have good things to say about it. Either is fine by me.
