Masking at our LCPS elementary is a complete joke. Anyone else?

Between breakfast and snack in the classroom, plus unlimited never ending water drinking, the masks are completely pointless. Also so many kids refuse to keep them over their noses and the school does nothing, absolutely nothing.

At this point we should just give up.

What did you expect? That’s the risk you take when you send them to back. I’m 100% fine with it.

imo, masks on kids younger than middle school are inevitably just hygiene theater.

Have Covid cases spiked in your elementary? If not... then maybe it's OK? It would be nice if the kids would keep them on all day, but take solace in knowing that many countries, including the UK, aren't requiring masking for elementary kids.

So why are we doing it then? (OP here.) It’s so much extra work on the teachers (and I am one.)

You're a teacher, in elementary, and posting during a school day?

Totally agree. I can’t wait until we can stop the charade. I’m waiting for Nov 2 to vote for governor. If mask mandate still in place I will very reluctantly vote for Youngkin. My struggling reader is really struggling with masks and needs to see faces!

I am pro masking in theory, but agree that it’s a joke since none of the kids wear them correctly and they have snacks etc anyway. I would love to see twice a week Covid testing instead, but get rid of masks for ES.

You know the mask mandate is on the locality level, right? The governor left it up to individual counties.

I don’t think that’s right. I believe the governor is requiring masking in all schools (public and private) in the state.

Here’s the requirement: https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/all-releases/2021/august/headline-902544-en.html

I have found that students will accommodate whatever the expectation is. In general, our students are generally pretty adherent.

You know they go to lunch and specials right?
