| To keep my portions small not to be cheap but doesn't hurt to save either! |
| Order off* |
| Yes. For fast casual or takeout. Never in person. I’m also generally ordering for a whole family so I don’t feel guilty about “cheating” them due to the size of my tab. Most seem to have a scaled down price that matches the portion size as well. |
| This is such a tedious conversation. Unless you're a child or a senior, do not order from those menus! It's super tacky and rude. |
| Of course you are being cheap. You are stiffing the staff. Most people won’t allow adults to order off the kids menu. |
| Always have. |
How? Tip is given. Extra food that would be thrown away is saved. |
A) Rude to whom?! B) I don't give two Fs if you think I'm tacky, DCUM stranger. Like a PP, I only order off the kids' menu if we are doing takeout. |
| No, but I often order appetizers as a main if I’m not hungry or I want something lighter. Some restaurants will also do 1/2 portions of mains. |
| I do all the time, especially since things on the adult menu don't usually work with my dietary restrictions, but I always tip as though I had ordered one of the more expensive menu items. |
| I don’t because kids menu are things like chicken nuggets or grilled cheese sandwich. I order a regular adult dish and doggy bag if I don’t finish. |
| Only for fast food. I get the McDonalds Happy Meals to cut down on portions. Not at sit disn restaurants which usually indicate an age cutoff on the menu. |
This. I waited tables in high school and college and this was never allowed. Most places did not have senior menus, but if they did and you could visibly pass for 55+, probably no one would challenge you, but otherwise, no. Kids’ meals are loss leaders to sell adult meals and drinks. We would be happy to sell you appetizer or box up your leftovers, but a 35 year old ordering a kiddie meal? Sorry, no. And no, we were not required to honor any cards from a bariatric surgeon, even if you whined that they were OMG DOCTOR’S ORDERS!!! The doctor has no authority over a privately owned restaurant. |
OMG that is so heartless. I have a disease that makes it so that I can't eat fiber and it is so hard to find something off the adult menu that doesn't have any herbs or seeds or something. I'm so glad I have never encountered an outright refusal. |
| I love the kid's meal and they often give me an Adult kid's meal so I can pay non-subsidized and get balanced small portions. Try asking for example for a 1/5 lb burger. Or a "petite portion". Or eat half the meal and get a doggie bag. |
