School hosted bookfair

Kid’s school is hosting bookfair, and all kids from different level will be taken to the fair and they could use e-wallet (more safer than given them cash) to get books on their own. School says it will benefit school.

Do you participate in this scholastic bookfair? I love buying books, but we have more enough books for now. Is that considered fund raising event benefit classroom teacher or to school itself?

Yes, I do. It's fun for the kid, and a fundraiser for the school. I usually let my child pick one book, and then get one from the teacher wishlist.

It's not super cost effective and my kid doesn't always pick an incredibly educational book but it's a fun childhood ritual so I'm okay with hit

Absolutely! I let my kid pick out a book and also let him choose one to donate to the classroom. He loves it and looks forward to it all year.

Even if you have enough books, consider buying some to donate to the school or other outside organizations.

Yes, love the book fair! Gives kids an option to get what they want and may be more inclined to read.

Some schools raise money. Some use the money to get more books. Some schools raise money in the fall to run a BOGO in the spring.

Usually its the PTA. Yes, they do raise money. I would not give my child money freely. They usually come home with a list but the books are twice as much so I'd rather buy off Amazon and buy the teacher supplies or what they need directly.

This. It is usually just 1-2 classes at a time to reduce theft.

Usually there is a online website component to the fair if you want to purchase books yourself and the school still benefits

My kids love book fair. I set a dollar limit and usually get one for the class too.

We only do the in Person one though. That is what is fun for them. Doing it online makes no sense to me since it removes the social element so you might as well just donate a bit directly and then let your kid go to Barnes and noble which has a much better selection.

Always! They can never have too many books

It’s good for them to learn how to have a transaction without their parents around. They have to make sure they have enough money to buy what they want, I remind them to be polite to the pta person who is running the Register. Remind them to wait for their change and receipt and say thank you.

I’m not a fan of the pens and other junk they sell up front, but I usually let my kids have $3 for some junky thing.

It’s opportunity cost. If you are doing it to raise money or book inventory, you want the families to come in also. It makes a huge difference. Postpone to spring to hopefully be able t get families in because now are vaccinated.
