One more time: follow the money

Ok so the Pearson company had to give the money back. Now where is it? I'm sooo confused.

You despise the Common Core standards because there are things on the standardized tests aligned to the Common Core standards that an individual child or class might not (yet) have been taught, and but the child(ren) have to take the test anyway?

Do you think that this is a problem unique to the Common Core standards? It's not. It's true for any standardized test, anywhere, ever.

I think the teacher's point was that these kids had not been taught much of anything on the test. Would you like to sit for a test in a language you do not speak?

Yes, exactly! Kids working at a third grade level forced to take 7th grade tests.

What is your solution for this?

Keeping in mind that the Common Core standards did not cause this problem, and that getting rid of the Common Core standards will not solve it.

You test them at the level they are at. Why on earth would you do anything else? And yes, Common Core IS causing this problem for special needs students.

As someone who has administered both DC-CAS and MSA to students with disabilities, I can tell you that this is not a problem caused by Common Core. It is a problem that existed prior to Common Core since the establishment of NCLB.

They didn't give money back. They paid a fine for violating the law by passing money from their non-profit to their profit. In other words, they are crooked.

So the Common Core standards are bad because Pearson broke the law?

One more time: where are we supposed to follow the money to, and what are we supposed to think when we get there?

There are whispers of a massive conspiracy up in NY right now. As in, follow that money all the way to Governor Cuomo's office. Stay tuned folks, this party's just getting started.

There are always whispers of massive conspiracies. And yet they so rarely turn out to be true.

It is an example of the opportunities afforded to very large corporations to manipulate very large contracts. Bill Gates may be well intended--but he is not implementing this system.

So the Common Core standards are bad because large private companies do crooked things with large government contracts? How do you feel about the Department of Defense?

Go start another thread if you want to talk about that.

It's all part-and-parcel, isn't it? The title of the thread is about why people are so upset about common core. Corruption at the testing level is part of it.

Not too happy with them when they break the law. That should be obvious, correct?

I don't want to talk about. The PP brought it up.

"Common Core" (as distinct from the actual Common Core standards) is a Rorschach test.

Do you also think we should get rid of the Department of Defense?

No. However, it is far from the same thing.
