| Anyone visited in person? What is it like? What is Oxford like? |
| The campus itself is way out in a cornfield and freshman aren't allowed to bring a car |
| Drug Abuse might as well be a major there |
| they offer pretty good merit scholarships to oos students but read the terms and conditions carefully |
| upper middle class vibes |
+1 DD was offered $24k per year for 34 ACT and 3.7 UW GPA (good private school). Would have brought the COA below VA in-state schools. |
not a very nice place to be without a car once the excitement of freshman year dies down |
| my dd and I drove through the campus on on our way to visit my parents and it's very pretty |
Can you elaborate on this? DS is interested in this school, applied EA and is expecting good merit. What is to know about the terms and conditions? It is very remote - anyone with first hand experience how a DC kid likes/dislikes this remoteness?. Campus is so pretty, but the remoteness is a concern. |

What is up with the housing for sororities?
My dad went to Miami way back in the 60s. In the 90s when i was looking at colleges, he REALLY wanted me to go to Miami and he and my mom made me at least to a tour there. I remember them saying something about how fraternities had their own frat houses but sororities weren't allowed to have separate houses and instead had specific sections of the dorms. My mom (a faux feminist) was appalled by the double standard and no longer pressured me to consider Miami. |
Penn State is the same way as far as frat (off campus huge houses) vs sorority (in dorms) housing |
This is true in certain states with "brothel laws" prohibiting a specified number of females from living together. I don't think it's due to university policies. |
| It is a very nice campus. There is a college town which is maybe a street long. It is a nice place, but it is very small town. I really liked it compared to a place like College Park. |

I grew up in Cincinnati (about an hour away from Oxford, where Miami is) and a LOT of kids from my high school went there ...at the time, very, very Greek; very white, and pretty conservative. It seemed almost southern.
This was 1000 years ago, so things may have changed... |
| My nephew goes there and loves it. My sister said it is pretty rural and there isn’t a lot around but the campus is beautiful and he is really happy. While its remote, it’s less than an hour from Cincinnati so not that bad. |
