Wanted a masculine of center haircut. Ended up looking like a member of a 90s boy band.

As the title suggests, I asked my hairdresser to cut my long hair. I aspired for something a bit masculine of center. I am not sure where we went wrong, but I ended up looking like I belong on the album cover of a 90s boy band.

I urgently need recommendations for a hairstylist who is talented with cutting hair for masculine-of-center women.

I just went to regular haircut place and asked for and received men’s haircut. Done. Very curious about the boy band hairstyle and wish you could post a pic.

You asked for masculine of center. That's what I pictured. Nick Carter or Lance Bass. You probably look better than you think.

OP here. Think more Jonathan Knight from NKOTB.

Any hairstylist recs?

That's actually pretty cute. I had an unfortunate haircut that left me looking like my father and Kim Jong Il (North Korean dictator).

Do you know what the difference is between a good haircut and a bad haircut…

About two weeks!

Sorry, bad haircut joke, couldn’t resist.

Agree that the haircut that you’ve shown looks good, but clearly not what you wanted. Maybe let your hair grow out for a couple weeks and then bring pictures? IMO, you don’t need someone who’s good at a particular type of haircut but you need someone who will do what you actually ask for and then ask them what you want. So many hairdressers just listen to you but then do what they think is best!

You have to have an example picture to show them, not just a vague concept.

What kind of hair do you have? And do you have examples of what cut you want? I feel like most short cuts are masculine of center by definition.

+1. Pictures are definitely clearer than words when it comes to haircuts. You’ll both be clearer about the style you have in mind, and the stylist can give you feedback re: how the style will work with your particular hair before they start cutting.

OP, just trying to understand -- do you mean "masculine OFF-center?" I can't tell what "masculine of center" means.

On a spectrum from feminine to masculine, with androgynous in the middle, more toward the masculine side. that's how I read OP's post at least.

OP, I am a woman with a fairly short/masc haircut and I like Brixton Millner: he cuts hair in Hyattsville--all races and genders. https://www.instagram.com/brix.thebarber/
