What is the name of that? I want to make it but when I google “middle eastern chickpea stew” I get so many different results with different names….
Any ideas? |
| OP what was the origin of restaurant where you had it - north African, Lebanese, Persian, Turkish? That could help to narrow it down. |
I have no idea. The places I order Kabob from are usually called “X Kabobs” with no reference to any country. Usually comes the kabobs with that yummy rice and simple salad, yogurt sauce, chickpeas stew and bread (similar to naan). |
|
It's similar to channa masala (the Indian version of chickpea curry or chickpea stew).
What you're describing sounds like Afghani/Pakistani kabobs to me |

or this one - with added tomato and use the garbanzo instead of kidney beans |

I think what you are talking about is Shour Nakhod:

Look for Lahori Choley recipes.
I haven't tried these but they look really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM0F8lL4zaE https://myheartbeets.com/instant-pot-punjabi-chikar-cholay/ |

That looks AMAZING. Whew! |
Which one was it that you were looking for? |
By the looks of it, I think the chikkar cholay is the one or the closest to it. I will make it tonight and let you know - even though I will NOT use 1 freaking cup of oil, and I do not have mango powder. Everything else will be the same. Thanks!!! |
| It’s so good and yes, it seems associated with kebab houses. |
mango powder? that doesn't sound authentic, unless they mean amchur, in that case you can use chaat masala which has that same tangy spice taste and is found at whole foods. Its yummy on apples, popcorn etc.. so it won't befitting forever. Chikar chilly are so yummy and they freeze really well. |
