| Anyone know of an incident in the Military/Oregon Have NW area this afternoon that would result in a school going into lockdown? My 9th grader was just released and called me upset. said it was sort of like a school shooter drill (classrooms locked, lights off, all kids in one area), but the teacher said it wasn't something in the school (why I'm posting here and not in school thread) and was something on Oregon Ave. I've searched the MPD twitter fed and looked at popville and Next-door, but nothing obvious is popping up. |
| I heard it was a manhunt for someone w a gun on Oregon Avenue. |
| I hope the school would alert all her parents post incident if they go into lock down. Besides being courteous, some children have major anxiety and it would be important for the parents to anticipate. Call the school. |
The school did send texts to parents. Police resolve the incident 30 minutes ago. Everybody is fine. |

School just sent a note that it was an incident at Oregon and Military and was resolved by authorities.
My guess had been some sort of manhunt for someone with a gun, a carjacking with suspects fleeing, or something along those lines, and that appears to be the case, though usually that into is pretty obvious on Twitter or Nextdoor. But there aren't many neighbors right there so maybe just less social media chatter. The school has hundreds of parents - I don't need to clog their phone lines when online resources can often provide more info, more quickly. |
| I was there waiting for my kid. DC police presence was strong - two choppers, cars, vans, foot patrol. Very thankful for their reaction as well as the school’s. |
| Was it St. John’s? |
I would have suggested you call the school if I had known you received a text from them already. So you were being nosy. |
Clearly. |
OP here. My kid called me very shaky a few minutes after 3 pm. I spent ten minutes or so trying to find something online. Called school and it was busy. Posted here at 3:18. Received text at 3:22. When something happens in our neighborhood (like helicopters), there's something on Nextdoor within minutes. I was concerned nothing had popped up in a quick search. I'd still like more details honestly but it seems like everything was handled. |
