Are people in this area just dumb or oblivious wrt driving with high beams on?

Anonymous
Lived in many areas all over the country. I've never lived in an area like the DMV where sooooo many idiots drive around at night on major roads and highways with their high beams on blinding everyone in their path for miles. Are DMV drivers really this stupid? Or do they purposefully do it and give zero craps about how dangerous it is to other drivers? It's truly remarkable how ridiculous this phenomena is around here. There is absolutely zero reason to drive on highways like 270 or 495 with high beams on. Y'all are idiots.

Sometimes I accidentally knock it on and don’t notice. I’m sure the same is true of others.

Not OP, but you are an incompetent driver. I have never done this once in 25 years of driving.

But don't feel bad, because this area is the mecca of incompetent drivers. The same people who drive with high beams, are the same people who don't turn on their lights in the early morning or when it gets dark. Or when it's raining.

I'm on 270 and 495 all the time and I've only seen maybe a handful of drivers with their high beams on. Where it gets annoying are the dark roads with no lights. I turn mine on when no one is driving towards me but there are a few inconsiderates who don't reciprocate.

Improvements in technology might make them seem like high beams when they're not. Lots of fossil anger here.

Incompetent driver? DP, but this Has happened to me too when I’m in a car with a poorly designed control panel.

If you can't properly handle the control panel of your vehicle, you're an incompetent driver. Jesus. I mean seriously.

It's not an improvement in technology if it is blinding people on the road.

Besides, they're high beams, because you can tell by the pattern of their headlights genius.

NP - Well, yes, technology has made lights brighter. But having brighter headlights for the driver shouldn't blind oncoming traffic. So you don't have to be old to feel that this may not be the best "improvement."

Emergency vehicles are big culprits of this.

Distracted drivers, that's it. No one is purposely trying to piss anyone off.

This. Like LED lighting.

You're confusing it with LED lighting, which is literally an eyesore, OP.

Also, I don't know if you've driven at night in dense urban areas, before, but you can't compare apples to oranges. You might never see a high beam or LED beam in less dense areas, but in the city, or near suburbs, you're bound to notice someone driving like this. It's a numbers game. I've driven in lots of cities around the world that have the same issue, and it's made me hate driving at dusk or night, especially if it rains: the raindrops reflecting the more or less intense beams give me a splitting headache.

This area is full of self absorbed assholes. They don’t care about anyone but themselves.

My car has automatic high beams. It detects ambient light or approaching light and turns them off.

But the regular beams are pretty bright also -- they are Xenon lights supplemented by laser and LED lights.

Yep. People flash their lights at you as if you have the high beams on. I think it’s especially bright in SUVs because of the higher level.
