"sent from my iPhone"

so what's the deal with the automatic signature? why do you want me to know what kind of device you're using to anwer my msg?
people are so concerned about privacy but they don't really seem to care about this little one.
I guess I'm just thinking out loud...

Don't blame the messenger. This is the default that is set up by the company/ISP provider. It can be changed but takes some effort. I have a blackberry and it took a few calls to customer service before I figured out how to take the auto signature off. Its free advertising for the companies involved.

I've pondered this as well...it's a default message programmed into the iPhone concocted by the marketing folks as a free method of advertising. There is a way to program any kind of signature you want...you could put Sent from my spaceship if you are so inclined. And now, all the other smart phones have jumped on the bandwagon and the signatures are becoming a little unwieldy like Sent from my 4G Blackberry Samsung 2010 Edition sort of thing... It's now so common it's not so hip, so I imagine Apple will come out with some other approach to reinforce its brand via email.

OP here... I got my iPhone and that was the first thing I did. It didn't take me 1 minute. Not sure how hard it is on a BB though.
Advertisement? I wonder who will buy a BB or iP just because it came as a signature in someone's email...

Believe me, it works. The lemming mentality is one marketers always tap into...and iPhones are the in crowd.

It's so all you lame non iPhone users will know how cool I am.

And I mean that ....

I left it there as a sort of tacit apology/explanation for the terseness of emails I send from my phone, as opposed to from my computer.

So, so true that it works. My friend sent me a message and I got the "sent from..." tag and I thought: wow I know she was worried about money with them buying the new condo and all and so if she got one, maybe they really are worth getting!

I am totally getting an iPhone so soon. DH has one and they are wonderful. I'm just being really lazy about looking into it.

It's super easy to change on a BB, too.

I don't advertise without compensation. No oversized logos on my clothing, no dealer decal on my car. I once told a dealer that he could put his decal on my car if he knocked off $1000. He didn't take my offer, because there are too many suckers out there doing his advertising for FREE. I'd offer BB the same deal, but all the sheep are ruining it for me.

my job requires me to have a message at the bottom that says i sent it from a device. i don't have to say the brand of course, but they want a tag to show if i'm in the office, and also if you have errors in your message it is more acceptable.

I was just going to say this.

Formatting and typing can be more difficult on a BB (or my tiny Samsung keyboard). I think sometimes people put that in their signature so people aren't as judgemental about grammar/spelling/formatting errors.

(not that anyone on this site would ever judge......)

Exactly, I left it there to explain my one-word responses and multiple spelling errors (don't ask how I manage multiple spelling errors in a one-word response).

Please explain how to do this - for those of us who do not want to be sheep.

I had to put the tag back on...

It lets people know I am at my desk or at computer so I might not be able to provide all the answers/details to a question etc.
