771 Area Code?

Anonymous
I've been waiting to get my kid a mobile phone because I think they are too young. This may just get me off the fence. Who wants a phone with a 771 area code? Would rather have 310 or 703 than 771.

The proliferation of mobile devices has:

1) necessitated the need for more and more area codes;
2) rendered the geographical area associated with an area code largely meaningless.

Some smaller cities may still use their predominant area code as an identifier, but the DC region is too big for that. As time goes by, only the old foagies like us will be bothered if we get an area code that hasn’t been traditionally assigned to the region. Younger folks won’t care.

We just got a phone for our 8th grader. We live in NoVA, requested a 703 area code and got one with no problem.
