I’m tired and in a rut.

Anyone else? If yes, what are you doing about it?

Yep me too. Ive now carved out time for myself, most importantly time to workout. Every Sunday, dh and i plan out the mundane parts of the week and divide it up. Every Friday, we cook dinner together (dh, 8 year old, and me) that is inspired by a movie. Then we watch the movie. Saturdays we play games or have races and the winner gets to decide take out.

Yes! Ugh. Just trying anything. I just downloaded the couch to 5k app and started tracking food again. Need to lose about 50 lbs. Also, trying to stay positive. I just found this quote, that's been my mantra for a few days, it's working for me...

"You can't control that life is unfair. You can control how you respond to it. Choose to find what brings you joy."

Great ideas and good luck!!
Agree start with some small things that nurture - one for
- yourself weekly indulgence (workout, journal, nap, treat)
- Friendship/partner activity
- Family

I learned after some long rut-like moments to start small.

Yes, me! And my children are older and independent. I have me time, I just don’t know what to do with it. Too much tv after work. Need some hobbies!

Me! I bought a new journal and am going to turn a new page on the calendar. This has worked for others so I’m going to give it a try.

Everyday I’m going to do something new I’ve never done before. Little things like I’ve never danced in my kitchen or sang the National Anthem in my closet.

Restarted my instrument lessons that I’d stopped during the pandemic. Getting regular exercise. Sleep and eating are not great right now, I need to be better.

Yeah, me too.

I've been trying new exercise routines -- long runs, long bike rides, etc.

I pulled back from a friendship that felt judgy/draining. Trying to focus on people and relationships that feed my spirit.

Trying to NOT say yes to obligations that I'm not really into.

It's ok. I feel a bit under the weather right now, but I hope that maybe in a few weeks I'll be back to normal-ish.

I love this idea!

That saying is perfect! It really makes so much sense to me! Thanks pp!

Yuuuup.

Today I forced myself to get up and paint another wall of my living room, though. I painted the first wall a month ago and the paint supplies have been sitting in the corner waiting for me to continue the project ever since. I didn't feel like it, but with one coat done, it looks nice and fresh and clean and I'm feeling a little better.

I know 90% of my exhaustion and lack of motivation is that the pandemic forced my preschooler home with us for most of the last year and we did our level best but it was incredibly hard to balance that with work, just as I was starting a new position. We finally got her into a program in the spring but it wasn't full time and then summer just got away from me and we once again had less childcare than we should have. She's finally in a full time program again and I'm still just trying to figure out how to be a functional person again. I think I'll get back to it eventually, but it's not instantaneous.

Me, too. Thanks! This is a thread I needed to read today.

I took a 2 week "staycation" in June but kept our normal childcare. I went hiking alone every other weekday...it was amazing!

I haven't really kept up with anything like that, but I'm trying to work in a short, local Friday AM hike most weeks in October.

Me too. I have started doing these stupid cheesy little exercise videos to peppy music for 5-10 minutes when I feel like I'm going to have a meltdown (2-3 per day lately) and they cheer me up enough to be functional. I think they give me a boost of energy, too.
