any recommendation for lunch container or other ways to keep kids’ lunch warm? typically lunch is cooked in the morning around 6:30am and DD eats around 11:30-12pm.
|
| We use a standard Thermos brand thermos for warm lunches. The key is to fill it with boiling water, seal the lid, and let it sit for 5 minutes while you heat the food in the morning. Then empty it, dry it out, and fill with your hot food. Pre-heating the container helps keep the food hot a lot longer than it would if you put the food directly into a cold container. |
| Following. This is the bane of my existence |
| We just use a regular Thermos (maybe the Funtainer?). I fill it with hot water and let it sit while I heat up the food. It stays warm enough for lunch. |
| +1 on the Thermos, after pre-heating with boiling water. I don’t bother drying it out too much if it will have something saucy or for soup. But for something hot and “dry” I’ll wipe it and then put a folded up paper towel in the bottom to soak up any moisture that would cause sogginess. |
| Why?? Just pack a sandwich. |
Our dinner leftovers are healthier than a sandwich and it’s easier to put a Pyrex container in the microwave and then put the food in a thermos than to make a sandwich. |
I don't make hot meals specifically for lunch, but sometimes we have leftovers that my kid likes. It's a great way to use them up, and introduce a little more variety. |
Not OP, but my kid swears everything is still cold/room temperature by lunchtime even though I use this process (and I pack it at 8 for lunch at 1230). Does yours really stay hot for several hours? |
Np and yes it stays hot. |

Thermos.
Did you grow up here? We used these in the 80s when I was in school as well. Same brand. |
My kids won’t eat lunch meat, and they can’t have nut products at school so no PBJ either. Being able to send pasta, soup, even chicken nuggets, is a lifesaver. |
And lunch meat is not something you should be eating every day anyway. |
Because some kids like hot lunches? I use a thermos from LL Bean and also warm it with boiling water ahead of time. I have used it myself and I was surprised by how warm it kept the food. |
My kids happily eat room temperature pasta for lunch! |
