Expectant and Postpartum Moms
I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and baby is head down, but I keep feeling this weird pressure right under my rib cage. The area gets numb and tingly but it isn't like she is kicking the heck out of me like she did when she was 27 weeks! It is happening quite a bit and really feels like my rib cage is going to sleep/numb...
Does it spread to the whole front or back of your uterus? If it doesn't end up covering a large area, I wouldn't think it is a contraction.
No, it doesn't. I think it's a nerve or something she is hitting. It's just one area but it feels so strange and it is off/on in a consistent pattern. It's not very painful so from what I've read - can't be a contraction... !
i read somewhere that a numb spot in front can be an indication of a posterior baby. i am not sure if it is true but wanted to mention just in case. it might be worth having your provider do some palpating or an ultrasound to see your baby's position. if your baby did happen to be posterior, knowing that before labor begins might be helpful so you can try to flip the babe before and/or during labor.

I had this problem with both my children, starting in the last 2 months of my pregnancies. I know the feeling you describe, oh, just reading this makes that spot ache again (3 years later.) It's not a contraction. I also had preterm labor and can attest to that. Also, in my case, they weren't posterior. My OB said the babies were getting cramped/running out of space and their butts were resting on some nerve or muscle.
I feel for you. It sometimes helped if I stood up and pushed on the baby's butt to get them to move down or around a bit. Oh gosh I don't envy you, it got totally unbearable toward the end. Good luck. |
