Can anyone share the in's and out's of leasing and/or buying a car and writing it off as a business expense? My husband has his own small business, which is relatively new, so we are new to what the options are for doing something like this.
He does need a new car as his is pretty old and he does use it to meet clients. If he gets a car and writes it off as a business expense, can other people drive it? Can the car only be used for business needs? What does he need to demonstrate to make it a legitimate write off? |

In short, if it's used for personal use, then you need to not count that part. But the catch is, if it's over 6,000 lbs (SUV/truck) then it's considered a work vehicle automatically: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/small-business-taxes/business-use-of-vehicles/L6hi0zzzh That's why so many big SUVs are leased. |
That's very helpful, thank you! |
