| Can someone please explain the incident that occurred @WSYL with Iroquois National team? It’s been all I’ve social media that a lady was complaining that they are in the tournament, but apparently it was racially motivated. Does someone know if she said something else? |
| from what i've read on social media, LIE mom was vying to sit at a WSYL banquet table where some Iroquois kids and parents were already sitting and made a comment they shouldn't even be in the event "yoos is trash" which moments afterwards she tried to take back (she reportedly is a teacher so not a good look). Iroquois kids and parents picked up and left. i don't know if it was racially motivated (mom could have said it to any nondominant team) but that was the way it was taken and especially how sacred lacrosse is held by the Iroquois nation. |
| The version I heard was they were sitting at the table reserved for Express so she said "you don't belong here" talking about the table since it was reserved for the kids from Express. So it was blown out of proportion. Of course this could be the way it was attempted to be "corrected," but hopefully it was just taken out of context. |
| Some different accounts. No video or audio. Ignore and move on with your life. I'm sure there's racism and offensive comments directed at native players (some of which are in fact on audio/video) but this one is alleged and there's no proof. |
If you don't see it as a problem, you're part of the problem. It's not the end of the world but let's use it an example and let's not let this happen again. |
If you automatically accept allegations from the internet without proof, I'd say you're part of the problem. As I said, I am sure there is racism and offensive comments directed at native players, and there are videos/audio to substantiate that. In this instance there's no proof so let's all learn from the past decade and be a little credulous. |
Problem with this is that we don't know what is true or what isn't. I heard the same thing as previous poster (I had a son in event) the next morning that the Mom was referring to the wrong kids were sitting at the LIE table. Each club had a couple of tables assigned to them. It was a mess with teams sitting at wrong tables across the ballroom. We should all know by now that nothing should be taken at face value with these types of events and how they are digested via social media. |
The problem is that Team Iroquois was race-baiting as an excuse for their team being weak. From everything that’s come out, it’s clear that this was a misunderstanding with no racism involved. Shame on Iroquois if all this is true! |
That's an offensive thing to say if you have no evidence. So trot it out, or take that back. |
I'm the guy who posted the first message above. Let me clarify, I neither believe what's said about the incident, nor disbelieve it. It's just without video/audio I'm not going to get involved in some internet controversy. And even if there was video/audio, there's often context missing from before or after the person hits "record". Believe me, there numerous vids of "Bully GETS TASTE OF OWN MEDICINE AND GET PWND" out there that turn out to be 180 degrees different once you get the backstory. All I'm proposing is the radical idea that we as a society pause and wait for more information before condemning some mom as a "racist", or condemning some team as being snowflakes/crybullies. Fallen for this sh*t too many times in the past and I've resolved to not let it happen again. Be the solution you want to see. |
there's no video or audio from the actual encounter, but the Berserkers team was evidently seated next to Iroquois National and also got up and left in solidarity. So whether or not the LI mom's comments were taken out of context, the tone and attitude must have been unpleasant, if not racist. Honestly, the lacrosse world is full of racist, entitled, white parents and kids. I cannot even begin to list the awful racist things I have heard on the sidelines or that my kids teammates heard on the field when we were on majority Black teams. And then there were the microaggressions. |
| I heard they forgot to make a reservation, but people come out with these blanket assumptions. |
The Israeli team also left. There were also reports/comments from other parents and teams that were there that confirm that when the incident took place players had moved from tables for a portion of the ceremony, that reserved tables had been filled as the L.I.E. team came extremely late and were claiming the table as theirs despite there not being a way to prove nor deny it was theirs. The whole reserved table thing, as noted above, has been mentioned several times as a mess. People should be equally skeptical about the situation, perhaps. WSYL didn't make any statement about it for *several* days, making the incident (or non-incident) a far bigger deal. They've subsequently made a rather milquetoast statement that confirms something happened. |
| The mob always moves on. And with no proof, facts or videos that can be confirmed, this issue is DOA as of this weekend. |
