Bosch dishwasher issue: Door won't close with the top rack in

Anonymous
THe top rack doesn't seem to move all the way back, so the front door can close. If you remove the top rack the door can close. ANy idea how to fix this. The rop rack rolls perfectly on the rails, this his happened before and I don't recall how it got resolved, other than running some cycles. Every DYI thing says it's an issue with the door latch mechanism but if that were the case, why does it close and lock without the top rack in? Any ideas?

You need to push the top rack all the way in. You will hear/feel a click when it connects with the water supply for the top rack. Sometimes it gets misaligned and doesnt naturally push into the right spot.

Make sure the water sprayer tube is properly connecting to the water source on top shelf.

Also, some top shelves adjust up and down. In my kitchen Aid DW, when the rack is adjusted to its lowest height, the door won’t close. You’d think they would have figured that out.

Hope this helps.

My Bosch sprays water from the revolving arm under the upper main rack. To do this it has to be pushed so that it locks into place, feeding water from circles in the back of the washer into circles in the back of the main upper rack. Because the main upper rack is adjustable, you may have to slide the rack circles on the back of the main upper rack up or down so that the vertical position matches those on the back of the dishwasher.

I talk above of the upper main rack, because lining up and locking those water channels seems most likely to be your difficulty. If it's the ultra-short 3rd rack at the very top of the dishwasher, you might be dealing with soap build-up, which can be cleaned with vinegar.

. If the OP’s dishwasher is set up the same way as the above then the answer is likely that the top rack was either lowered or raised and is no longer aligned with the water source that feeds into the water sprayer, this will cause the top rack to protrude and prevent the door from closing.

The top rack on my Bosch it's held up by metal arms on each side. Sometimes the arms stick out just slightly further than the rack. Try putting the rack in and pushing in each of the arms individually.

If that doesn't work, Bosch customer service on the phone has helped me trouble shoot past problems.

You loaded something that is sticking out, either in the back so the rack won't back up all the way, or in the front that is pushing against the door (even if it looks like it should be flush). BTDT

+1 something is blocking it. Just stick your head in there and figure out what it is. Could be one of the pieces of plastic from the dishwasher itself, not necessarily a dish you loaded.

On my Bosch something seemed to be preventing the upper rack from fully pushing back therefore preventing the door from properly closing and latching. If I tried pushing hard, it would latch but I wasn't comfortable with that because I had to force it shut (and never had to before). As suggested by another poster, I fully opened the door and pulled both racks all the way out as far as they could go. Sure enough, there was a coffee mug at the back of the upper rack on the right hand side that had the handle of the mug protruding through the rack and hitting the back of the dishwasher when the rack was pushed back. Rotated the mug and voila! Problem solved!

If you have the adjustable height one, make sure it is on the same setting on each side.

I did this repair just last week with my Bosch.

At the back of the large middle rack I would have to slide a part upwards to match up with the connector in the back inside of the dishwasher each time we ran the dishwasher. Otherwise it would not close.

For my Bosch model SHP65TL5UC/02 I bought part number 0603 for $~30 from Amazon and it was so easy to replace, a 6 year old could have done it. The 2 0603s looked and acted identical, so I don't know why one was broken, but the switch fixed it.

Here is the one I purchased through Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082H65BJR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_gMj4EbHH3YCX7

Sometimes the wheels get out of alignment and I have to potash them back in.

Yes to all the people who say the middle rack has to align with the black water spout in the back. For us all this meant was that one side of the adjustable middle rack was at a higher setting than the other. Before you take the whole thing apart/out, check that both sides of the middle rack are on the same level!

Figured this out. On the back of the large top rack there is a rectangular molded plastic piece with circular openings in it. This molded plastic piece slides up and down in a bracket located on the back of the upper rack. The sliding up and down feature allows for alignment with the water supply circular openings on the back of the dishwasher (which are not adjustable). I found a small orange zip tie in the bottom of my dishwasher right when this started happening. The adjustable rectangular plastic valve piece wobbles all over the place within the mounting assembly on the back of the rack. The two valve pieces are smashing into each other and do not allow the rack to push in all the way and therefore the door does not close. It appears that the center circular opening on this adjustable valve piece has a cone shape piece on the top that should help it align and slide together with the supply piece. Well, without the zip tie, it seems that the adjustable piece doesn't stay aligned. Seems as though there should be some other retainer piece or something that better secures the rectangular piece in proper alignment with the supply valves. Zip ties, really?

Oh by the way, I did the whole dishwasher removal procedure referenced above (LOL) however it was to replace an unreliable Maytag with a Bosch.
