My sister passed away - any way to get her photos from iPhone?

Anonymous
My sister passed away a few months ago. She didn’t have a spouse or kids (she was 28). I have her phone. I would love to get the photos from the phone as she had a lot of pics with my kids. I don’t have password and she didn’t back up to a computer, only iCloud. Is there anything I can do to get the pictures?

I am so sorry to hear she died so young! Big hugs, OP.
Have you tried her birthdate?

I’m sorry for your loss.

I’d schedule an appointment at an Apple store or just walk in and explain

Thanks. I have tried hers and all her nephew’s DOB. I was then locked out for a few days. That was a month ago and I haven’t been able to get myself to turn the phone on again. Will try the niece’s soon. Thanks again.

The Apple store won’t be able to give you the password as it’s encrypted even to them. The government has been battling Apple for years over it.

As for passwords...think about old phone numbers, addresses, etc. If you can learn some other passwords she had at work or whatever you might be able to guess it.

I am so sorry for your loss.

This is what I was thinking too. That Apple won’t be of any help.

Try and find out her ATM password. After that try the easy ones - 1111, 0000, 1234, etc.

Apple isn't going to be able to help, unfortunately.

What model iPhone? Older ones have less digits.

I would still call Apple. They can’t unlock the phone but maybe she had the photos in an iCloud account.

Contact the carrier company. You'll need to supply a death certificate but I think that's how my sister's widow gained access to her phone years ago. So sorry for your loss.

The carrier has nothing to do with the iPhone password or iCloud.

Did she use google photos by any chance? It automatically backs up pictures.

Maybe you can reset the iCloud password? If you have access to email and her phone to get the two factor authentication code they text that might get you in there.

A lot of people use the last 4 of their SSN. My parents use their atm PIN number.
