Why do people use so many curse words on the private school forum?

I find it low class. Why would you pay $30k to send your kid to a private school and have such a limited and crass vocabulary?

My son is in private, and I swear like a sailor. It's very satisfying actually, and I don't think it has anything to do with that tuition check (does it?)

I hadn't noticed that the Priv/Ind. Schools forum contains an unusual amount of curse words compared to other fora.

Whereas "curse words" sounds so juvenile to me and "low class" is just so, well, "low class."

As for the claim that the use of profanity is a sign of a limited vocabulary, the first time my Mom told me that I offered to match her word for word. She cracked up and conceded I'd win.

I agree. It may have absolutely nothing to do with your wealth. But, it is absolutely directly correlated with your very limited vocabulary. But, don't fret, your child will likely exceed your vocabulary threshold if he or she hasn't already by now.

Profanity is rife at both the upper and lower ends of the class spectrum.

It is the prudes in the middle that refuse to swear.

There have been studies about online behavior that show that people express themselves in ways they would never do in person. Thus, the cursing.

There is simply no link between size of vocabulary and use of swear words. For example, the English have on average a much larger vocabulary than Americans, but also swear much more.

I'm a curser. Grew up poor, now make 1M+. I stopped cursing during my social climb, but now that I'm "established" I'm back to my old ways, and it feels goooood!
