I don’t know if she’s a writer or had a ghostwriter but it’s so funny (save the part I warned about; that’s just pure trauma) and so well written. I hated Nellie Oleson with every fiber of my re-run watching being, but unlike some parts in which you can clearly see why an actor was cast, she seems to be the opposite.

I really liked her book! Prairie Tale by Melissa Gilbert was also a good book, but she comes across as more narcissistic to me.

In addition having enjoyed many of these books, i loved Carrie Brownstein’s memoir, Hunger Makes me a Modern Girl. If you’re a Sleater-Kinney fan, don’t miss it. Other good books by women in music: Ann and Nancy Wilson’s Kicking & Dreaming, and Kathy Valentine’s All I Ever Wanted. Some really raw stuff in the latter.

Julia Child! LOVED her autobiography but also read a biography about her. She fascinates me and her life was incredible

Alison is a lovely person and is truly funny irl. But I agree about the traumatic part. When she saw the person who assaulted her for (perhaps?) the last time, what he said to her chilled me to the bone.

Not a woman, but I loved Jacques Pepin's autobiography. It's funny and upbeat and takes you back to a time in the US when we had a much more limited variety of food. He was in charge of food at Howard Johnson's at one point. Also has some lovely sections about Julia Child and other chefs he has met/worked with.

Ib liked Mark Twain Innocents abroad

A Girl from Yamhill by Beverly Cleary. Very good!

Her second one was also good, but I liked the first one better: My Own Two Feet

Definitely not Paris Hilton’s memoir.

Just finished it today & cannot believe it made The NY Times Bestseller list‼️🤔

Badly written, too much of the “F”-bomb presented as well as all over the map.

She writes about one subject -> then skips to another immediately.

This is a kids’ book but one of my favorites — Small Steps: The Year I got Polio by Peg Kehret. It’s a great story of resilience and strength.

Wow so many out of the box recommendations I am SUPER excited! -NP

Enjoyed the following audiobooks:

"Surrender" by Bono (has great musical interludes)

"Live Wire" by Kelly Ripa was surprisingly great, she's not annoying at all IMO

"Broken Horses" by Brandi Carlile - wow, she's something

"The Art of Asking" by Amanda Palmer, I tried the art of asking later and it's great

"The Boys" by Ron Howard (his brother joins at times), made me want to watch The Andy Griffith Show

I might have said this already, this is a long thread, but

Rain Malan's My Traitor's Heart - best memoir I've read, ever.
