| 2015, 54,000 miles, garaged (know owner). I drive 15,000 miles/year. How reliable is this brand? Can I expect 125,000 relatively trouble free? Repairs expensive? |
I wouldn't. even last night, there was a report (ABC World News Tonight) about Kia (Hyundai is the parent co of Kia) and some Hyundai models catching fire. |
It is very reliable. We have two Hyundai cars, the Santa Fe and the Elantra, both 2010. We bought the Elantra secondhand in 2011 with 11,000 miles on it. We have had zero problems. Hyundai gives a very long (five-year) warranty, which you will probably get the benefit of if you purchase it. |
| We love our Hyundai. 12 years old, over 170k miles and running great (with some maintenance, obviously). Hyundai recently had a recall over a part that could potentially cause fires so we took ours in to a dealership last weekend. Got it fixed quickly and at no cost. It's a good company. |

DH traded his 1999 Tiburon in for a 2012 Sonata and has been pretty happy with both, though there were a few issues that were covered by the warranty. I traded my 2000 Elantra for a 2008 Veracruz and have also been fairly happy, but definitely would recommend getting an extended warranty if possible.
We've gotten to at least 90k miles on the cars that we traded in and my Veracruz is at 100k and I'm expecting a few more years out of it. Our nanny has a 2008? Sonata with 198k miles that is still running fine, but the trim is definitely starting to fall apart. She takes her car to a mechanic who fixes door handles, AC, etc for MUCH less than the dealership would charge. |
| We still have our 2004 Hyundai sonata and it has 168k miles. It's still running fine. |
| We have a 2009 and 2010 Santa Fe, both purchased used with about 15,000 miles. Haven't had one problem with either car, after suffering with lemon Nissans and Hondas. Highly recommend. |
| We have '07 and '09 Hyundais and no complaints here. As someone else mentioned, the five-year/100K warranty is great. Our '09 has about 158K miles on it and barring regular maintenance is still going strong, and we hope and plan on it doing the same for many years to come. |

Can you please share the name of this mechanic? If so, thanks in advance! |
OP, it is five years or 60,000 miles so close to that. There is also 10 years 100,000 miles for the engine but is that one of those things where you had to get EVERY oil change at a Hyundai dealer? |
| Very reliable. We still have the Hyundai Elantra I bought new in 2003. No major issues, just normal wear and tear and upkeep. |
| We have a 2015 Sonata. So happy with it. It has been through the wear and tear of two teenage drivers. We haven’t needed a repair yet and have similar mileage. The car feels new still! A big reason why we got it was because of its high safety ratings/features. |
| I have had two Sonatas now. Had to replace the first only due to an accident and the 2nd is going strong 8 years later (2010). I have had literally zero problems with either. They are GREAT cars. |
Oh yes - I will rephrase. This recall is the first issue I have been aware of. |
