If DC gets into an elite early, does it warrant a celebration during winter break

The stupid questions people as here never cease to astound me.

I'm happy that you got your first choice is how I would leave it. Any more than that is creating an impression to him that you tie his worth to factors out of his direct control.

New car and summer backpacking in Europe

No it does not. Don't inflate his ego even more than it already has been.

+1 Just dumb. At this point, admissions is SOLELY up to admissions officers. I don't get the point...hey kid, the admissions offers liked you...let's celebrate!

So don’t inflate its ego more than it has been.

Do you have other kids? If so, be careful because even if you want to reward the accomplishment, you don't want to reward the random luck part, that might not happen to the next kid. Or maybe the next kid is less capable... watch out.

So No.

We will be rewarding our one-and-only for his hard work over the four years with a trip to help him choose among the schools that let him in.... more than that will depend on how much this college venture will cost us.

When DD got into Berkeley, which was where she wanted to go, we got a cake that said, "It's Berkeley, bitch!"

DD got the love plate at dinner that night, my ex came to dinner, and then we whipped out the cake. DD's younger sisters screamed congratulations and threw confetti on DD. It was something that really only cost $30 or whatever, but totally marked the occasion and made DD feel loved and recognized.

Ok, sorry. No, it does not. Don't inflate her/their ego anymore than it already has been.
