What do you wear on a day to day basis? I want to look cute but I always find it hard to spend a lot of money on casual lounge wear stuff. I end up buying cute "going out" clothes that just sit in my closet. I need inspiration! Shoes, pants, shirts? What are you wearing?
Right now I'm wearing jeans shorts that are slim and dark and rolled above the knee and a navy V neck t shirt that is too big for me. If I go to the grocery store later I'll wear flip flops which I hate. |

I dress super cute when I go out with my husband and consider myself a pretty stylish girl but my day outfits with the kids is ridiculously ugly and I need serious help.
I wear sweats and t shirts with flip flops and feel like an old maid. If I match, it is a really good day. Ugh. |
| Try some cute dresses in a comfy knit fabric. Easy and effortless. Ditch the ubiquitous flip flops and opt for a pair of ballerina flats. |

Hi, I haven't spent much since I had the kids. I have 2 pairs of jeans, no shorts, 1 cargo pangs, 2 skirts, 3 leggings, 2 teeshirts, 2 wraps, 2 button down shirts, 2 dresses, 2 formal skirts...
I pretty much LIVE in my jeans, a teeshirt, leggings. I probably look sloppy with the tee shirt and jeans. I feel most comfortable in the leggings and cargo pants. Love the cargo pants. Since I have twins under the age of 2, it's comfort and convenience (yes, you can fit two bottles -- one in each cargo pant pocket). I do get stared at and people do comment that I am 20 or something. I'm always carded though I'm 38. It probably has to do with my attire. I live in a snobby area, so some ladies do look down when they walk by. I don't care. I spend my money on books, books, and then more books

Cute dresses and ballerina flats..are you 12? |

So with you on the cute dress and ballerina flats being childish.
I personally like to whore it up when I'm out with the kiddos. Plenty of sequins, lycra, platform shoes and lotsa and lotsa ink showing! |

I disagree with 15:28. I think this is a great look that is pretty and comfortable. |

I am wearing a grey denim skirt, a tee shirt from anthropologie, and fit flops (mostly b/c REALLY flat flats hurt my feet at the end of the day)
Whe I go to a dusty park, I put on some shorts and tee shirts, but otherwise I always try to look nice. My older daughter notices and I want to be an example. Not to mention, I need to never never never never wear elastic. It is the fastest way for me to overeat. |
Are you 60? Or just bitchy... |

Oooh, we have some moms with too much time on their hands. That, or it's just way too hot which is why the mean comments are flying.
I'm the mom who wears the nice, tailored knit dresses and ballerina flats -and I get compliments all the time from all the other moms at school. Michelle Obama is wearing them, too - and receives kudos for her style. Seriously, ladies - this forum is meant to be helpful to all but people aren't going to share if they get the brunt of unresolved anger. All the stylish clothing in the world won't help if the soul is not also pretty. Let's make this a positive and purposeful posting. |
| I love the dress look - but the comfy looking dresses that are in now - long or knee length, usually solid color and tank style. It looks cute with stylish flip flops (not rubber ones) - it is very bohemian, cute and comfy. When I saw dress/flats that is what I thought of not a big pink bow tied behind your back and lace?!?!?! |
| The past two years have been "the year of the dress." They are everywhere, especially the patio dress - which is probably not practical if you have small children. Even the most hip stores like Cusp have half the store devoted to them. Comfy, usually knit (think DVF) and either in brights or optical patterns. They are sooo much cooler than shorts or pants especially today. A no-brainer - throw one on and go - and you'll always look great. If not flats, then gladiator sandals. |
| OP here. I do have a few knit/cotton summer dresses. I buy them at Jcrew when they are on sale. Sadly, they are my "going out" attire lately! I live in Annapolis and its pretty laid back/preppy here. The other problem I have with knit dresses is that I'm petite, like 5'2, thinner... the straps are always to big so the dresses are too low cut and I feel like I'm constantly adjusting. Plus, this may be weird but by bra straps are always shortened as far as they can be, again because of my frame, and the arm holes on the dresses are too low, so you can see my bra on the sides because its so hiked up. |
| sorry "too big" |
Agree that we're going on year 2 of the dress. Everyone in Manhattan is wearing them this summer with flats or gladiator sandals. They look great - cool and fashionable. |
