DC is a high school junior at a public high school in DC. Her most recent SAT score was 1440 (780/660 reading/math). Unweighted GPA will be approx. 3.7/weighted will be 4.4. Hispanic. Interesting language-based EC. Wants to be in a city school. What are realistic options?
What major?
Liberal arts -- probably linguistics
I think any school is a possible. At this time focus on finding a safety or two she would like, and you can afford.
That's a pretty open-ended question OP. Can you be more specific? Area, size, private vs public...etc.??
OP here. We're open to private or public, although leaning towards the former. Also full-pay, with legacy status at a couple of Ivies. Other than that, no preference on size (beyond not teeny-tiny). Just having a hard time figuring out what is realistic.
Sorry - I meant to add that DC wants to be in a city school in the northeast/mid-Atlantic. That should cut things way down.
Howard University
Has she taken any APs?
Tufts?
URM w/ good GPA and good SAT. Doors are wide open for her.
She will have had approx. 7-8 APs, with scores in the 4-5 range.
Harvard, MIT, Tufts, BC, Northeastern, BU.....in that order. The desire for a city school is going to be your limiting factor.
City school? How about Columbia or Penn? She's in that range.
A 3.7 UW is too low for the Ivies/comparable universities and top SLACs, even if you are a URM.
