Do you support megachurch/prosperity churches and pastors?

I guess Lon grew up Jewish?
Anyway it is incredibly disrespectful and rude to tell a Jew they need to convert. Especially since as Christians we are a younger faith and sprouted from the Jewish faith.
I'm not sure how anyone can follow the teachings of Joel Osteen and claim to understand Jesus at the same time.

Lon Solomon is a self-hating Jew. I think many of his followers are "true believers" and believe the cr*p that there is only one way to salvation and thus would want to convert anyone who isn't Christian. I don't really hold tt agains them. But if you ever are invited to a MBC event, you will hear The Speech. I have gone twice - once to go to a Christmas concert that a friend was in, and a second time about five years later when I must have blotted from my brain what happened he first time. Others who have gone also heard The Speech. The Speech basically goes like this - Lon preaches "when I was a Jew, I...." (made a woman get an abortion, was a druggie, etc), equating his past poor behaviors with his Judaism. He could have proclaimed his new faith in many ways but he he didn't. While not Jewish myself, I grew up in a community that was mostly Jewish, and know what it's like to be in a place where no family is three-generations complete due to the Holocaust. I spent most of my formative years enmeshed in modern Jewish history and culture. I felt so angry and even violated when I hear The Speech, that I always wish I had had the courage to stand up and shout out "Hey, Lon, you will always be Jewish by blood and according to Jewish law. If Hitler were to come back to earth today, you'd still be sent off to the camps, no matter how many crosses you hold up. You didn't do bad things because you are Jewish, you did bad things because you were a drug-dealing a-hole"

I find all megachurches creepy, but I have a particular loathing for the pastor of MBC.

Agree. I think self-hating Jews like Lon, who try to destroy Judaism by sending out his minions to try and convert them to Christianity, is more of a threat to the religion than the KKK. Much more insidious. I had some MBC members implore - practically insist - that I go to their service (so I could hear The Speech), and they got very belligerent when I said no.

....continuing....but I heard that Lon has retired. Has his successor dialed down the negativity toward Jews? Or is he just as hateful?

Thank you Joel.

But $$$ brings you closer???

I haven't ever donated any money to Joel, except maybe $1 or $2 when I went to his church a couple times visiting Houston. I mostly listen to his podcasts and his television shows, as many people do. And guess what? You don't need to. You've been fed a crock of media BS about this man

I hate to break it to you, but you made a serious mistake here. $1 or $2 is not going to cut it. You need to buy the Platinum Prayer Package to ensure that Joel Osteen will personally hear your prayers and commuincate them to Jesus. This package is available for the bargain price of $29.99/mo + tax (sorry, YOU pay tax, Osteen does not). EBT, SNAP, PayPal, and all major credit cards are accepted.

Except I didn't. And have never been pressured to donate. And I'm still a welcomed member of the church. I guess that puts a bit of a damper on your little conspiracy theory... rats. Next time get a little more creative, say Joel is responsible for crop circles or something, that's harder to disprove...

Joel Osteen has nothing to do with crop circles, sorry. However, if you publicly donate $250k or more to his church, you will be invited to take a birds-eye tour of the "lesser states" via his private G6. You can view the crop circles from the luxury of a hand-stitched leather seat, and not have to listen to scientific explanations or talk to any farmers with dirty hands.

They tell everyone, I do not think your man was singled out for any reason. I am OK with it because I understand how the great commission is part of the core of the religion. I really do not care, you should not either.

But I do disagree on modern Americanized mega church being a child religion of Judaism. Ancient Judaism does not exist and is very different from modern forms of the religion. I would rather classify them as sibling religions.
If you are searching for a religion similar to Judaism it is Islam

I do not think modern American mega church is anything like Judaism or Christianity. And it's very far from ancient "Christianity". Christianity is a younger faith that sprouted from the Jewish faith.

Those prosperity churches prey on low-information people-that's why they aren't popular here. We have too many educated people to get a critical mass of suckers and fools.

No idea about fake moon landing. Osteen isn't claiming responsibilty for Area 51 but I don't doubt that he paid close attention to Whitley Strieber's hustle in the late 80s and subsequently modeled his own pretty closely.

Of course not.

Surely. He also is responsible for chemtrails and putting fluoride in our water. Charlatan!

^ If Osteen actually wanted to do something useful in developing countries (or in parts of the United States), he could help raise awareness and direct money towards water sanitation initiatives. It's a shame he'd rather pad his wallet instead.

That's an understatement. I've been at MBC for 28 years and never heard a hateful word toward anyone, especially the Jewish people.
