Olive Garden drops Letterman

Anonymous
I see that Olive Garden has pulled its ads from David Letterman's show because of his Rodriguez/Palin joke. I thought the joke was silly, I thought Palin's reaction was silly, and I thought Letterman was silly not to apologize immediately. However, the first aspect of the whole affair that actually angers me is Olive Garden's prissy response. How do others feel?

Why do you feel Olive Garden was pissy, sorry, pRissy?

Their food is gross anyway.

What was it that you had to eat there that you didn't care for?

I dropped Olive Garden years ago. I'd be happy if they boycotted everything on TV so that I didn't have to watch their stupid commercials. Is there anything Rachel Maddow can do to get the penis enhancement people to drop advertising on her show?

I take it you're not Kendra from The Girl's Next Door.

They said “We apologize that Mr. Letterman’s mistake, which was not consistent with our standards and values, left you with a bad impression of Olive Garden” . I don't give advertisers either credit or blame for the content of shows that carry their ads, and I consider it pompous, moralistic and self-involved for them to act like this kerfuffle was about them. To be charitable, perhaps I should assume they were just engaging in the good old American pastime of grabbing publicity.

Anyhow, I will not refuse to go to Olive Garden on this basis. But since I was already not going there because the food I saw in their ads did not look anything like food I have seen in Italy, it's a moot point.

BTW, has anyone heard what A-Rod thought of the joke?

You don't believe in "put your money where your mouth is"?

I found Letterman's comments bad just like I found Don Imus' comments bad but didn't want either fired. I do notice that many of the people who were outraged and wanted Imus fired during his rude spectacle were silent. AL Roker where are you now???? Al Sharpton I am waiting? I actually applaud Olive Garden because they took the only kind of stand that I respect-they decided they can invest elsewhere and that is their right.

That's OK. I dropped them because they mock Italian culture -- Hospitaliano?!! When you're here you're family eh Ma! -- and because they never met a dish that couldn't do better by melting cheese on top. Maybe they teach that at the Culinary Institute of Tuscany.

For some reason, the reaction to Imus's comments focused on the racial insult to the exclusion of the feminine insult or both.

Oh the hypocrisy of liberals and Palin. I love it!

As some comedian put it "as an Italian American, I'm not offended by the Sopranos, I'm offended by The Olive Garden."
