The movie "Up" - has anyone seen it? Is it appropriate for a 4 year old?

I just about to leave to take my 4 year old. He like the trailer. I'll let you know how he likes the movie.

My 4 yr old DS loved it. It was full of adventure. There were a few scary parts like most Disney movies (mean dogs) and the beginning was a bit heavy but most of it went over his head. I liked it too!

Both my 2.75 yo and 4.5 yo liked the movie ... me, not so much. Luckily the more "serious" moments were lost on the kids. Talking dogs were a big hit.

Well, back from the movie. As the previous posters said, the four year old enjoyed the movie but I think most of the story line was over his head. He was scared a couple of times, but insists that the "mean dogs" were his favorite part.

We just saw the movie with our 4 year old. It was good but definitely had some scary parts. Several little ones in the theater were balling their eyes out hysterically and didn't stop cyring because they were so upstet. Too bad they find the need to make kids movies so scary in parts and violent. Beware about taking little ones. Definitely for older kids - 10 and up...

Oh honestly. Kids movies have ALWAYS had scary parts or things that might be disturbing to the littlest ones. Bambi's Mom? Mufasa going down in the Wildebeest stampede, not to mention those hyenas and the elephant graveyard? Practically all of the Black Cauldron? Hell my favorite movie growing up was American Tail and recently rewatching I couldnt believe how downright frightening some parts were (like the cats attacking the village). And yet, years later not only I am a well adjusted adult, but I had no memory of it being scary whatsoever.

I think it really depends on the kid--I haven't gone to see it yet, but several friends have and liked it. My friend who has a very sensitive 4.5 YO had to leave in the middle though.

I saw it with my husband in a theatre full of toddler. The kids loved the physical humor, especially the dogs and anything involving people falling down or being dragged along by the house. I thought it was a beautiful movie, but it's really melancholy. The kids seemed to miss the sad parts, which is good, because I was weepy the entire 2 hours (I'm 30 weeks pregnant, which might be part of that!).

10 years and up? Are you kidding? I cannot think of a Disney movie that doesn't have scary parts. I saw it w/ a theatre full of kids and none of them left. I didn't hear anyone crying either. It wasn't much different from the stampede in Lion King or other such scary parts and characters in Disney movies. If Disney thinks Up was meant for the over 10 crowd, they are going to lose out on profits big time. Kids that age aren't interested in "baby" Disney movies anyway.

Film companies may think that films are acceptable for little kids, but that doesn't mean the parents have to agree.

I agree that most movies for kids are way too violent. Lion King was about murder and revenge!!! When I saw Aliens vs. Monsters, I could not believe all the violence and the military crap in it. Why should my small child be exposed to military choppers and machine guns just to have a good time at a movie? Gross.

Jesus christ lady. The Lion King was about coming of age, embracing one's destiny/responsibility. To focus on *murder and revenge* is to totally miss the point.

And as for Monsters vs Aliens... did you not see any of the trailers? If you'd been paying attention then you'd have picked up on that and maybe realized that it wasn't going to be your cup of tea.

23:02, I actually think you just crossed a line. You gave your take on the two movies (I'm with you on The Lion King btw), no problem, but your choice of language is unfortunate at best. Let's keep it civil, real, opinionated, funny, interesting, all those good DCUM things, and leave it at that.

And this theme is a great example of why many movies advertised for kids don't always turn out to be really appropriate for kids. Just because there are singing and dancing animals doesn't mean that it is written with kids' developmental needs in mind.
