Do D3 schools recruit for sports the same way that D1 schools do?

How is the process different? Specifically, do D3 schools make offers before students actually apply to a school?

Depends on the school and the strength of the candidate. My DC was screened by admissions based on scores and GPA before making a visit. To get any bump from a selective school you have to apply ED. They will give you a good indication but until you have the admit letter in hand there's no commitment. Others may have different experiences.

Agree. DC committed to a top 3 academic SLAC/D3 school March of junior year. Had to go through pre-reads, but nothing guaranteed until ED letter came. There is intense recruiting done by D3 schools, but no athletic or academic money. High school students are trading their athletic ability for admittance to schools that they may or may not get into on their own.

This is completely and patently false.

The top academic D3 schools do not give merit money to athletes or anyone else. There are D3 schools that give merit money to all students, but not the top ones.

D3 schools can't give $$$, but they can make it affordable through FA...However we found this to be true for the mid level schools, top tier ones don't give a damm. Same for D2...
