| Is it worth applying? Anybody's children have a good experience? |
| There's an IB program at Parkdale but a former teacher did not recommend it when I asked. |
| I've heard good things about it. |
| What about the Laurel High School IB program? Anyone with experience or know anybody that knows about the program? |
| Parkdale has a very good IB program. |
| I've known two families who sent their kids to the Parkdale IB program and they have been pleased with the school. |
| Is there transportation for the program? |
School bus |
| Another cool thing about Parkdale, btw, is that they have a terrific instrumental music program with several different levels of ensemble. AND, kids who have never played an instrument but want to give it a try can do so in the basic band program. In a lot of other schools, if you have't played before you are out of luck at this point. |
| I just found out about the IB program. Are there any more details? |

The issue with the IB program at Laurel, very few kids actually get the IB diploma. I honestly have no issue with kids getting a lot of homework, essays and projects, however many of the IB teachers act as if their class is the only one a student is taking. I think the IB program is good at Laurel and challenging, but it makes it damn near impossible to be able balance anything else like organizations and/or athletics, or even a after school job.
Pre-IB for 9th and 10th grade a student can get away with participating in organizations and athletics, but after 10th grade the work is piled on exponentially. AS parent if you don't care about your kid being in organizations or athletics, then IB is definitely the way to go. |
| Not sure about Laurel but I know some kids at Parkdale and they are having a really good experience. |
|
I've heard that Roosevelt has become extremely difficult to get into and I wonder if a lot of the kids who don't get in will start going to the IB programs.
There is continuity from the TAG middle school programs into the IB high schools |
This is what is happening at Laurel. Kids coming out of MLK are steered torwards science/tech at ER, however those who don't get in may end up with the IB program at Laurel. The alternative is stay at Laurel for a year try again the next year or go to High Point. I've also known some kids who got in science/tech, but opted for the IB program at Laurel instead. |
| What about the IB program at Central IB program any feedback? |
