Hello all,
I installed marble countertops and I am curious about dishsoap. I will use Dr. Bronner's soap to make a counter spray, but I do not want to dilute it to make a dishsoap. I have been using Mrs. Meyers honeysuckle, but is has citric acid in it. All the soaps I've looked at have citric acid in them. I will not be using this directly on the counter, but it is bound to get splashed on the counter. What is your experience with your marble countertops and dishsoap/cleaners? Thank you so much! |
Mine are homed carerra marble and I use Dawn.
I haven't had issues and it's 10 years. |
OP here. I prefer a natural dishsoap, such as seventh generation or Mrs. Meyers. Those seem to all have citric acid. Anyone have experience this these brands, or other natural brands, on marble? Does yours contain citric acid? |
Are you not supposed to use citric acid with marble? |
I don't think so. You're not supposed to use citrus or vinegar. |
Colorless method one |
Fyi I wish in had gone granite or quartz, marble sucks |
Is that a dishsoap or a cleaning spray? And why do you not like your marble? |
I learned the hard-way when one of the kids split green liquid soap spill on the bathroom counter. It soaked in and the green wouldn't go away. I used poultice and the color of the stain is gone but you can definitely see the outline. I had to switch to ivory free and clear. I would hate to have this as a kitchen counter. |
Sounds like you didn't seal yours. You must know what you are getting into with marble, but many people love their marble countertops. |
We sealed it with 2 applications of dupont bullet proof. It still stained because the soap was left on there overnight... |
I just use counter spray - murchison hume or caldera usually. My counters are honed marble - love them to death. We had them sealed but you can see some etching (tho not that noticeable due to the honing). i actually prefer the look of polished marble but didn't want to stress out about seeing marks all the time. We have polished in the master bath tho and it looks awesome in there. |
I'm considering marble for a kitchen, but could someone tell me what you use to disinfect the counter top after, say, raw chicken or meat? I know how careful you have to be with marble and I would imagine the usual disinfectants would be terrible for it? |
I use clorox anywhere spray or wipes and also wipe down with dish soap, mine is honed.

Curious: do people prep food directly on counters? I've always only used chopping boards for this. And would never consider putting raw chicken on my counters. I guess that it would be ok, so long as you sanitized appropriately but wouldn't it be easier to just use cutting boards that you can clean? |
