One side of our yard has a mulched "island" where the property line goes through the middle of it. It extends into our yard quite a bit where I have ground covering, flowers and some bushes. The part on their yard is just mulch.
I love planting, seeding, clipping and even weeding out there and it is killing the Type A person that I am to not reach over and snatch their weeds up. My husband says it's rude and implying they are not weeding up to my standards, which while true I realize that it is my hobby and I don't have an ounce of judgement in me about whether they like to weed or not. As a side note, they are new neighbors with 2 sets of adorable twins (elementary and middle school) and I have talked to them a few times including when we brought over a big basket of baked goods to welcome theme. I just want to pull their weeds. I can just do it, right? |
| Just pull 'em and move on. |
| Can you come do my home next? |
| Yes, you can pull them - haha. Just do it discretely... |
| Well, I for one would be very grateful! |
+1 I wish I had you as a neighbor. |
|
Just love your title.
That's all. |
|
I have lots of beds I'd love to share with you!
Be discrete though - you don't want to get a weed lady reputation! |
me too! I also say go for it, OP. enjoy! |
| As long as it's just the shared bed and not other parts of their yard. |
|
Go for it.
I have no idea what are weeds and what are not. If someone helped me by plucking something undesirable, I'd be really happy! |
| Feign ignorance about where the property line is if caught red- handed? |
| Go for it!! You should post on your neighborhood list serve. You can come to my beds next. |
| I'm doing the same thing, OP. Though I waited until I got to know the neighbors a little. (didn't ask them directly. Really, most of the bed is on our side, and it was pretty neglected when we bought the house. We pulled a bunch of poison ivy the first year. I think they're grateful. I hope. |

OP, go for it. Likely your neighbor isn't even going to notice.
I'll bet in time you could go ahead and plant on that side, with your neighbor's permission, of course. I'm obsessive about weeds, too and love gardening. Your situation reminds me of odd property lines at our current house; we have a long, narrow patch of lawn in between our driveway and our next door neighbors'. The week we moved in DH mowed the entire area between the driveways. Our next door neighbor came out to shake his hand; for years, the previous owner of our house mowed exactly to the property line...about one foot outside of the driveway. |
