As a mother of twins and a twin myself, I beg you...do not give them such close names. Being a twin comes with its own joys and challenges. One of the big challenges is being seen as an individual and not just as "one of the twins." It's no big deal when they are cute babies, but it will suck for them school. Give them separate names PLEASE. (Elizabeth and Annabelle seems like a good option.)

Barring the knowledge that it's the same name in different languages, I don't think these two names are similar sounding in English at all.

but a lot of people do know they are the same name... even their mother does!

They're not the same name. Elizabeth is Elizabeth. Isabel is Isabel. Would you say that John and Ivan have the same name? Or James and Diego? Or even Vaclav and Wenceslas? I wouldn't.

they are not the same name literally but I would never name my children any of the pairs you suggested.

I love it but if you want to differentiate a little bit, maybe go with Isolde.

No. For the same reason I would not name twins John and Juan, Mary and Maria, Charles and Carlos...

No, don't do this to your babies. They sound too similar.

This. And Isabel is so much more classic than Bella or Isabella.

Isabel is far more classic than Bella (ugh...) but Isabella is also a classic name. There have been multiple Queen Isabellas through out history & there is a character named Isabella in Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure".

In any case, I would avoid naming twins either Elizabeth & Isabel or Elizabeth & Isabella due to the similarities. I would also avoid using Bella as a given name as it is way too trendy to be paired with a classic name like Elizabeth.

I like the Elizabeth & Annabelle suggestion. Eleanor & Isabel might work, too.

Almost as bad as my high school classmate who named her twins Katrina and Catriona.

I never pipe in with negative opinion on names but Elizabeth and Isabel for twins is HORRIBLE, OP.

Yes. It makes you look stupid. Would you name one Mary and the other Maria?

I am an adult Isabel, and I have been mistakenly called Elizabeth on a regular basis for my whole life. Something about the name Isabel causes people to sometimes mentally change it to Elizabeth and say that instead.

Just my experience.

No. It's bad. Would you use Mary and Maria or Miriam, Sarah and Sarai, Caroline and Carla?

So many better options out there...
