Do Your Teenage Boys Still Wear Pajamas?

Plus you get to save money on pajamas. I think many teen boys prefer to sleep in the nude but might be embarrassed to tell their parents.

To each their own, but pinnies sounds like it would be super uncomfortable

+1. This exactly. My kids aren’t teens yet, but this was me as a shy adolescent boy. Starting around age 12 (which would have been about 1990), I would get under the covers wearing my boxers and then slip them off and sleep with them under my pillow. I was a stealthy one. Lol. This worked for about a year until one weekend when they had accidentally fallen off my bed onto the floor at some point in the night. My mother had come into my room for laundry and saw them. At breakfast she said, “so were you just hot last night, or do you sleep naked all the time now?” I must have looked embarrassed, because she continued, “nothing wrong if you do, it’s the most natural way. Dad and I always sleep naked, and so does your (older) sister.” I was kind of shocked to find out everyone else in the house did the same thing, and surprised at how casual my mom was being about it, so I said, “uh, yeah, I like to sleep that way all the time now.” She said “Ok, I’ll start knocking from now on.” And that was that.

Better to be prepared. You never know when a sudden scrimmage might pop up in the middle of the night. 😂

Why would a teenager want to sleep completely nude? It’s like it’s assumed that all boys will eventually stop wearing any clothes to bed. That seems a little far fetched.

My 13 year old wears flannel pajama bottoms and a t-shirt to bed. Loves the PJ bottoms and refuses to wear something a little cooler in the summer.

Perhaps because they feel it's freeing and more comfortable than with clothes on. I don't think everybody does it or want to but some and perhaps more than you think because they might be too embarassed to tell it to their parents.

I can relate to that. I recently asked my now 15 year old son, why I haven’t seen any pajamas in the laundry lately, and he confessed that he has slept in the nude since he was 13! So, because he has been too embarrassed to voluntarily clue me in, I’ve wasted money on pajamas that have never been used all this time!

Both of my son's do not wear pajamas to bed anymore. They stopped around 8-9. They wear basketball shorts to sleep.

Of cause not all teen boys (they are as different as adults) but I don't think it's uncommon either.

The better question is why wouldn’t he or she want to? Raging hormones from the onset of puberty + the stimulating sensation of cool sheets against the skin + newfound privacy = wanting to be naked as much as possible. Comfort eventually becomes a factor too, but in the beginning it’s all about being free to explore the body. I don’t think anybody assumes that every last male sleeps in the buff all the time, but many more do than you probably realize. I have ever since middle school, and very few people know that or would assume that about me.

My DS started wearing boxers to bed around age 9 or 10.

How does the transition to college work for nude teen sleepers. Roommates?

At their ages, and with him making it a point to tell you not to buy them PJs anymore, I have a hunch they’re either not wearing them at all or just putting them on when they get out of bed in the morning to humor you.

That seems very likely to me. Perhaps you should ask your husband why he thinks that and then talk to your son.
