Moving over 10 hours away... PODS vs. UPack, etc.

Anonymous
If you have experience (or know of someone who has done this), please share. We may be moving over 10 hours away (what I consider to be my threshold for driving a uhaul truck), have to take 2 cars with us, and have a kid.

Most of our big stuff (table/chairs, beds, couch, desk, etc) we will Craigslist. We will still have quite a bit of stuff.. home business, hobbies, and general crap that we want to keep from 10 yrs of marriage.... most of it in boxes.

When we moved up here with approx. a small 2-bedroom apt worth of stuff, a full-service move was $10K 5 yrs ago. We are looking to scale this down quite a bit, as this new job MAY not pay actual reloation costs, but give us a lump sum and we can do with it what we want. I would rather use extra $$ to buy nicer furniture once we get there.

HELP! PODS vs. UPACK vs. something else? We have done the uhaul thing too many times, and hired guys to load/unload... we will definitely hire the guys to load/unload but plan to do the packing ourselves.

Thanks!

Good friends used a POD when they moved from VA to GA. It was parked in their driveway for about 2 weeks while they loaded it, then off it went. They ended up staying with family for a week while they were waiting for their house to close, so the pod went to a holding facility first, then was delivered later. They had a wonderful experience.
