younger meaning teenagers and people in their 20s
I have to say from my experience when I lived in a lower middle class area (right out of college) it was somewhat common. Now that I am in a much better off area (suburbs of a major city) I rarely see it as much in the younger crowd, everyone seems to stick to their own race most of the times. Occasionally I see a Black guy with a White girlfriend and I do see White males with Latina and Asian girls a lot but all else never really. |
| Statisticalky: Whites, Asians and Latinos are intermarrying more than ever; but not Blacks. So basically the first three racial groups are drifting closer to each other and Blacks get left further drifting apart. |

My white European mother and far Eastern father had me in 1980. At that time in Europe, that was quite rare, and when we moved to a little country town, I was the only mixed kid there. People were very friendly, except my own European family.
Fast forward to 2014 in the DC area, it makes me so happy to see so many interethnic couples! |
| DH is asian and I'm white - does that count? |
I see it like this from my own experience as a 31 year old American. White men with Asian, Latina, and just about every race of women out there. White guys with Asian and Latin wives/girlfriends are common but I see them with other races in high numbers too in my area, young and older people. White women with Black men is common in the younger crowd but I hardly see White women go for any other minority group in sizable numbers. |
| See more mixed couples among people who might have been lower income years ago. And see more mixed couples among middle and upper income folks but just while dating, not for marriage. |
| DH and I now live outside of Boston and most of our friends have relatively high HHI. We are in our late 20s early 30s and in our group of friends of about 20 people, there are 5 inter racial couples. |
| I know a few Indian woman/white man couples, a couple Middle Eastern guy/white woman couples, a black/white biracial woman with a white guy, and an Asian guy with a white woman. All early 30's, married, upper middle class. |
| I have a few friends including myself who are black/mixed and dating/married to white men. |
| Nice to see so many anecdotes. Data, hower, show that as intermarriage increases, Blacks are being left out. |
|
I'm a "desi" and exW was asian.
as I'm single again, I'm dating white women now. |
What makes you use the phrase "left out". That implies an unfulfilled desire to marry interracially in the first place. |
| 50 yo white woman married to 45 yo black man. Our 20 yo white niece is dating a Chinese-American man. |
| I am in my mid-30s many interracial couples, probably at least 1/3 of my coupled friends are in long-term interracial relationships. I am white and have dated people who are white, black, Latina, and hapa (Chinese/American). fwiw, I don't live in DC but live in a trendy, upper-middle class urban area. I am in a Brazilian/American mixed marriage though my partner does not identify as Latino (many Brazilians do). |
| I'm a late 20's white female in the Northern VA area and married to an african american man. DH has an advanced degree while I have a high school diploma. We're middle class. |
