Top test scores, mediocre grades, middling GBRS -- did your kid get in?

Anonymous
I'd be especially interested in hearing from parents who have ALREADY been through the AAP selection process in past years and had a student who fit this profile.

Trying to gauge the chances of my very bright son (who has been phoning it in at school) getting in to AAP.

99% for NNAT
98% for CogAT (composite -- all individual scores in the 90th percentile range)
Mostly gets 4s for the actual subjects (Math, Science, Reading, etc.), but frequently gets 3s (some 2s) on the "effort" grades. Also gets mostly 3s on the work/study skill topics.
I'm assuming will get a middling GBRS (10-11?) from the teacher.

Did anyone have a kid who looked like this? Did your child get in the first time? On appeal? Not at all?

Really really not looking for people to hypothesize based on what they've heard. Would very much like "real" data.

Yes, friend's kid. Doing great in AAP, btw

Nope. GBRS weighs a lot in selection process!

Both of my kids got mediocre grades (actually some 1s and 2s in citizenship grades) but both got decent GBRS (14 and 15). They are both in AAP.

A Gbrs of 10 should get in in with these scores: I have a 4th grader in AAP -98 CogAT comp and 90 Naglieri with a gbrs of 15 - in first round ( I two out of three and you're in - good cogat and gbrs for us -naglieri okay, but not really AAP) You will also have two out of three even if your kid doesn't get a stellar gbrs

My child was similar with GBRS of 8 and grades were 3s and 4s. Grades are higher in AAP.

Sorry. Previous entry. Got in on first go. 99% for Cogat and 92% for NNAT. I don't remember exact Cogat scores, but all 3 above 90%.

DS 1 is in 6th now. Was in pool with 99% cogat, 97% Naglieri. Almost all 4's. Same deal with lower organization grades, etc. GBRS ended up at 9. Not in. Appealed, but could not afford WISC, so just letters and better work samples. Rejected on appeal. Principal did not place in LLIV group. I was upset as since K teachers had said they were certain he'd be in.

In 3rd, his school had AAP co-taught . One teacher taught math and science, the other LA and Social Studies. Both taught AAP and Gen Ed. In those subjects. His teacher told me in week 2 he needed to be in AAP and that I should parent refer.

Parent referred in 3rd. In first round. No new test scores. Just work samples, and questionnaire. Straight 4's in 4-6 AAP. I assume his GBRS was higher. Incidentally, he was diagnosed with ADHD in mid 4th.

Just had a conversation with his 6th grade teacher about what happened. She she was appalled that he had been passed over. She was frustrated that in his case, they did not recognize a well known fact in the gifted education community, that it is not uncommon for gifted students to also have ADHD and/or organizational issues.

My DS had great Cogat, OK Naglieri, and good Wisc with a 99% on Verbal comp.Grades were average/high average but nothing great. GBRS was very low--in on appeal.

My DD got in. She didn't score all that high (below the bench mark) on the WISC.. in the high 120's. But she had a perfect GBRS score with great comments and excellent grades.
