Wow, OP, that is remarkable! Our oldest cat only made it to 15. We have had one dog who died--she had bad kidneys and only made it to 7.

My sweet girl just crossed the rainbow bridge at 17

Our purebred Persian that died last year was 17. Our current lady, also a Persian, is -we think- 15 or so.

Both were rescues.

I wish I could have gotten 10 more out of the one that past away. And 10 more with my current. Just the sweetest things.

Cats, lived to 18. We've taken in busted-up ex-ferals (who are incredibly affectionate, clean, friendly, responsive, within days of adoption -- every time) so we don't expect them to live to the extreme old ages. Still absolutely an agony when one goes.

My husband's family had to put their beagle to sleep at 18 years old, but they really should have done in 4 or 5 years earlier. His quality of life was miserable at that point

I had a cat that was the daughter of another of our cats. She was born when I was 12 or so and died when I was 30. That makes her 18. My current cat is 17.

My mom's cat was born on Super Bowl Sunday 1991. I was 15 years old. Cat is blind, deaf and a bit slow, but still uses the litter box and eats like a champ.

Our little dog is 12 and she's dying from a neurological disorder. She's one of the loves of my life. I found her when I was destitute, she was just a puppy, but a purebred I'd always wanted as a child. I literally *found* her but took all the right steps to find her family. Once she stepped into my life, everything changed for me - I got married again, had a child - my dream came true. I love her so much and she's so precious. My poor little girl.

PP, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. How lucky she was to have found love with you. Hugs to you.

My beagle/basset hound mix was 18 when he died last year. Broke my heart but he had Cushing's and a heart condition and he got very sick very fast.
