teenage sons have zero interests

Anonymous
My son is going through this. We started seeing a counselor and it has actually helped alot. She is also teaching us how to be "parents of a teen." The one thing she has gotten through to him is that he might not have any interests, but he has to do the stuff (experiences) that we ask him to. Our job is not to be his friend, but to be his parents and expose him to different things. He heard the counselor say it, but ignored us when we said it. When we went to counseling last week, my husband asked her if she would move in with us!

Our counselor has not been useful and it is tough to get a referral when all friends seem to be active kids with multiple interests. an you share the name of your therapist? Offline to ickldurl@yahoo.com? I would be very grateful.

If so, maybe you should take a step back and focus on yourself for a bit. You're smothering.
