Cursive at home

I think cursive is ridiculous and never taught my now 17 yo to use this. He doesn’t need to know how to write this way. I don’t write this way. I print or type!

Taking notes in college classes is MUCH easier if you know cursive & don’t have to print everything. It’s not that difficult to learn. What a weird thing to be so strongly against….

I reverted back to cursive while I write and I do find it way faster than print and somehow more relaxing. I'm a little dubious about the brain benefits that everyone talks about (why wouldn't it be the same for any kind of hand writing? Didn't cursive emerge because fountain pens leave ink blots when you stop so they needed something continuous?) I don't think it's some essential biological human need.

However I like cursive. My kids are using the Kumon books and I think they are great.

I can’t write it. The minute we no longer were required to use it I stopped. And when people write a handwritten cursive note half of them are unreadable. Or a lot of people mix and match cursive and print. It’s a sloppy way to write.

Cursive is not easy for everyone no matter how much practice is put in it. Just as many studies show cursive writing as unnecessary and outdated.
