Is a bus line to get to Mac Arthur new school?

There will always be a bus from where expensive people live to the upper strata schools, c.f., the Deal bus east of Rock Creek, the shuttle to Latin.

However, if it's meant to be transportation for lower income people to a higher income area, something will always "fall through."

Yeah, it's really nefarious that they probide a way for kids to get to their in-boundary school.

I can’t believe this school is a thing when there are underenrolled high schools in the city. It’s criminal.

So are there (more) buses that get kids to JR now than there is for this new school?

Er, yes. Because J-R has more than 0. And a metro station.

I mean the charter system has gutted most schools not in ward 3. Which I'm pretty sure was the point.

So the only part of our growing city's public school system is in ward 3. So they are building/adding to schools in Ward 3.

Good. Build upon what works.

I guess the city could have instead cut back the number of OOB seats at J-R. But that’s not a great option for any politician interested in winning an election. Some people may also argue that such a policy would not be “equitable”.

dp: Of course, it would have made far more sense overall to send everyone to their neighborhood schools and spend the Macarthur on staff and resources for the nicely-renovated, under-enrolled schools. But that is too logical for DCPS.

But the mayor cut half of the Circulators in her FY24 budget and WMATA doesn’t seem to keen to scale up service either. I suspect that there will be some amendments to try to get a new line in the budget, but I’d wouldn’t bet money on them succeeding - there just isn’t enough revenue this year (thanks to all those working from home).

And yet somehow found money in the budget to give MD and VA residents free bus service.

The mayor didn't propose that, Charles Allen did. The mayor is against that because the CFO says the money is not there to pay for it.

Yes, I assume she cut back the circulator figuring the free buses would take all their riders. Makes sense to me, if there actually are free buses.

Huh? Someone who needed to take one of the Circulator routes can't just take a different route. There isn't any redundancy.

At the risk of sounding "inequitable," tax-paying DC families inbound for Ward 3 schools deserve to access non-overcrowded public education, too.
