Are speed cameras coming to GW Parkway?

Lack of shoulders, sight distance, etc, plus deer and traffic volumes. Anything faster is a hazard. And I see people doing ~80+ regularly. It’s time to bring the speeds down. You won’t do it on your own, so you need to be fined.

I drove it at midnight recently and it was scary. People were maniacs, no lights, no visible striping.

Paint costs money and is bad for the environment.

You know what else is bad for the environment? A burning car, which ran off the road and hit a bunch of trees and caught fire, because the driver thought they could do 80mph, on a road narrower and in worse shape than my driveway.

What are they building there anyway? So much construction on the northbound part of the parkway

No. All drivers should stay right unless passing. The left lane is for PASSING and the right is for TRAVEL.

100% THIS.

When there is always a car in the right lane, you’re always driving in the left to pass all the cars. Therefore, it avoiding become a fast lane. Your theory only works when there are very few cars in both lanes - never the case on GW.

+1. I get the move to the right rule but most of the time I AM going faster and passing car after car on the left. If there is a car going faster in the left lane I will move over to the right usually to let them pass. But often the cars in the right lane are closely following each other so I keep going in the left lane until I can safely move over for the even faster passing car to go ahead. Sometimes this clear irritates said driver because they will ride unsafely on your rear bumper making it known THEY want to go even faster than you. At some point if you are in the left lane passing at say 60 mph (so definitely above the posted speed limit) and the right lane is congested the person who wants to do 65-70mph is just going to have to chill out for a few minutes.

Great, you agree that the left lane is for passing. I can go 30 in the right lane if I please. Just because you are going 80 doesn't give you the right to use the left lane. You are only to be in it if you're passing. The car driving unsafely behind you is an AHOLE unless you are driving next to the person in the right lane and not using it to pass. It's not that complicated.

I wish the GW had "Stay right except to pass" signs like they do in NJ.

No!! It’s insane. We are speed camera exhausted, taxed to death. Stop handling us. The traffic moves well. It will make everyone drive at a snail’s pace. Where is our constitutional freedom?!

I do not like Trump but I’d be ok if he stopped most of the speed cameras except near schools, hospitals, busy intersections and got rid of most of these fool bike lanes with the bumper poles…totally slows down all traffic and we just spend that much more time stuck in traffic.

I thought this was the opposite way around. Most exits and entrance ramps are on the right so the right lane is for passing and the left is for travel.

This is the correct answer.

Speed cameras would be great. Big fines. Nothing else gets anyone’s attention.

Yes speed cameras are a tax you choose to pay or not.

Surely you are trolling and cannot be this stupid.
